Faith is a man's response to God, who reveals Himself and gives Himself to man, at the same time He brings man a superabundant light as he searches for the ultimate meaning of his life. This implicates the search of man for the meaning of his life, the revelation of God to man and finally the response of man to God which I will explain further.
The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God, and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Throughout history, men have given expression to their quest for God in their religious beliefs and behavior such as prayer, meditations, rituals, sacrifices, etc. But this intimate and vital bond of man to God can be forgotten, overlooked or even rejected by man for different causes. Although man can forget God or reject Him, He never ceases to call every man to seek Him, so he can find life and happiness in Him.
Created in God's image and called to know and love Him, the person who seeks God discovers certain ways of coming to know Him. These ways of getting to know God can be by looking at His creation or His works
But there is another order of knowledge. God has revealed himself and given himself through a free decision. He reveals the mystery, his plans by sending his beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. God has been revealing himself to man throughout history. He manifested Himself to our first parents, spoke to them and after the first fall, He promised them salvation (Gen 3:15) and offered them his covenant. God made an everlasting covenant with Noah and with all his living beings( Gen 9:9-16) God chose Abaraham and made a covenant with him and his descendants. By the covenant God formed his people, Isreal, and revealed his law through Moses. Through the prophets, he prepared them to accept the salvation destined for everyone. Finally, God fully revealed Himself by sending his own Son, Jesus Christ, in whom he established his covenant for ever. The Son is the Father's definitive Word, there are no further Revelation after him.
God desires "all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Tim 2:4) : that is of Jesus Christ( Jn 14:6). In keeping with the Lord's command, the Gospel has been handed on in two ways:orally and writing. Thus, the apostles handed on what Christ entrusted to them by their preaching and writing, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to all generations, until Christ returns in Glory.
Thus, man responds to God because of God's revelation and by faith. The latter is when man completely submits his intellect and his will to God. The man gives his acceptance to God, the revealer. The Bible call this human response to God, "the obedience of faith" ( Rom 1:5, Rom 16:26)
